Hidden away in a tranquil corner of Shela on Lamu Island, just few steps away from the Indian Ocean in Kenya, Fishbone House is where art photographer Eddy Van Gestel finds his inspiration. The design of the house is an eclectic blend of Arabic and Western influences, built to the highest standards. With its walls swatched in coral stones, the house has become a Shela landmark. The houselt pays tribute to the beautiful Swahili architecture with its minimalistic design and is decorated with unique gifts from nature like whale bones and drift wood. Fishbone House has opened up to guests in search of a high-end place to stay. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available for those who want to experience Swahili cuisine to the full. With generous living space, four double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a dining area, two spacious terraces, an office area and a large kitchen, Fishbone House is the perfect spot to enjoy this heavenly, unspoiled island. Be inspired by the hakuna haraka way of life that’s so typical of Lamu.



THE HOUSE


All rooms are designed with the magnificent details of Swahili architecture. The first and second floor contain two bedrooms each floor, all with en-suite bathrooms. Bedrooms are furnished with Lamu four poster beds, reading lights, mosquito nets, dressing tables and ceiling fans. All bathrooms are adapted to delight the most discerning travellers. The dining rooms looks out on the magical courtyard and features a large table that seats ten guests. You’ll find a further dining table at the rooftop. The kitchen is fully equipped with a cooker, fridge-freezer and utensils. The thatched rooftop has spacious lounge areas where you can enjoy a drink with friends, gaze out at the sea, the surroundings or the starry night sky. Wifi is available throughout the house.



RENTAL RATES


Rates are for the whole house and per night, for a maximum of eight guests. Prices don’t include breakfast, lunch or dinner. The transfers by boat from and to Manda airport are also not included in the price.
