LOCATION

Hidden away in a silent corner of Shela at Lamu Island, just footsteps away from the beach at the Indian Ocean in Kenya, the iconic Fishbone House is the place where international art photographer Eddy Van Gestel found and finds his inspiration. The design of the house feels like an eclectic blend with Arabic and western influences, build to the highest standards. With its walls covered by coral stones, the house has become a Shela landmark. The house pays tribute to the beautiful Swahili architecture with its minimalistic elements of design and is decorated with some unique pieces of nature like whale bones and drift wood. Recently Fishbone House has opened its doors to welcome guests who are looking for a high end and comfortable place to stay, offering breakfast, lunch or dinner for those who want to enjoy the Swahili kitchen to the full. With more than 400 square meters of living space, 4 master bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a dining area, two spacious terraces, an office area and a large kitchen, Fishbone House is the perfect spot to enjoy this heavenly and unspoiled island and to feel yourself inspired by the hakuna haraka way of living so typical for Lamu.
